3DSFX Project 2

Final Video

Reflection

We have recreated the music video ‘Where Have You Been - Rihanna’. I had the idea when I was watching the ‘Boom Boom Pow – Black Eyed Peas’ music video. We used green screen throughout the video because effects will added in the background of the video too. We also added Boris in the music video.
I had fun filming the video with my group members. We took 2 days to memorize the dance steps and film it. As you can see the first group video, we looked really tired because we had to repeat the steps over and over again and it was really tiring. As you can see, there's tape on the background. This is because it forgot to colour it green.

Fire Face

Fire face – the reason why we did the fire face is to show the ‘fierceness’ of the video. The original footage was filmed in a dark room with only flash light at the top of the head to show only the face and nothing else so that the fire will only be applied on the face.

Form Face

Form Face – ‘Form’ cannot be found in After Effects. It has to be downloaded and installed in order to use it. It is fun to play around with it, twisting and turning. To move the particles around, 3D will be needed to see from different angles.

Solo Dance

Solo Dance – In my solo dance, there are 3 effects that I used. Firstly, I used system particles in the beginning of the video as I catch it in my hand and blew it away. Secondly, for the background of the video, I used Ramp for the circles, convert the audio to keyframes and parent it together. The circles will move following the beats. I added 3 of these and change it to different colours. Last but not least, I added a shattered glass effects to end my video.

 Reflection
For this project, I was inspired by the Harry Potter movie trailer so I came up with my very own and it is called ‘Siti Nadiah and The Book of Tales’. Basically, I focus more on the lightning effect on the wand. I admit that it was very tedious to give a good quality work as I had a hard time trying to track the stick, also known as the 'wand'  in my trailer.

I appreciate movies like Harry Potter, Lord of the rings, etc. I also played around with the color correction like the exposure, levels, curve, tritone, tint and more to get the right color for all the different scenes. For example, for the first part of the video, I used more of blue and green to get the dark and cold surrounding.

At the beginning of the editing, I find it tedious because I was not used to the tools in Adobe After Effects, but after awhile, I got used to it because I kept using the same tools over and over again and sometimes i explored what the rest of the tools does.

I think the video is too long? But I hope you enjoyed it! :)

Week 3 Lab 2

Part 1:

piZap.com free online photo editor, fun photo effects

Throughout the whole exercises, I find this tutorial the most interesting. I used the effect that I didn't know I was able to. Its called SA Color Finesse 3. This is an awesome effect because with this one effect, I was able to change almost everything. The color of the whole image to the actual skin color. The original image is too bright and too much red in it, just take a look at the original bucket and the edited bucket and you can see the difference.

In the first video, that is the 'Primary Color Correction', I learnt how to change the skin color if the video is too bright, I just need to use the effect SA Color Finesse 3 and look at curves. There are 3 color pickers at the bottom of the screen, White, Gray and Black:
White color picker: Highlight
Gray color picker: Midtones
Black color picker: Shadows

For the second video, that is  the 'Secondary Color Correction' I have to decrease the saturation of the bright red bucket. I just need to highlight the whole bucket by color picking the different shades of the bucket. When the whole bucket is highlighted, I can then decrease the saturation.

These are:

·         Secondary Color Correction in After Effects

I managed to apply the technique in the other two exercises that I was tasked to do. I enjoyed it! Oh yes, I forgot to mention this. For the pope, when I decreased the saturation for the robe, his neck will also changed to red and that was not what I wanted, so what I did was to duplicate the layer and used the top layer to mask the rope, string and hat. This is because that are the areas that I want to decrease the saturation and I want the other areas to remain as it is. As for the bottom layer, I untick the effect that I used on the top layer so that the it will go back to its original image and nothing is being edited.

Week 3 Lab 1

Part 1:

After watching the tutorials for lynda.com, I've learnt that Adobe After Effect has effects like hue&saturation, color balance just like Adobe Photoshop but in After Effect, we are able to apply these effects on images as well as on videos. The two images above was provided in the folder, I tried applying the effects that I've learnt in the tutorials. As you can see on the first image of the little girl, the red was decreased and increase more blue and green, also known as the 'cool colors'. As for the second image, I used colorized and change the Hue so that it looks more realistic.

Part 2:

These are the two videos that was ask to be completed for Week 3 first lab.

The first video:

The second video:

Before attempting this exercise, I thought it was hard to change the color tones (make the first clip look like the second clip) but the tutorials from lynda.com helps a lot. I managed to change it. It was kind of easy, I just need to play around with the hue and saturation. I also used the curve to get the shadow and highlights that I think is appropriate for the videos.

Week 2, Lab 2 and 3

Text Matte

This tutorial was a fast and easy to understand. It is an effect for the text. I also find it interesting that I was able to do this effects.

James Bond

First of all, I didn't know james bond was eddited using Adobe After Effect. It was a very tedious tutorial, I must say but I enjoyed doing the tutorial especially when I was editting james bond and the twist. There are many effects and tools I learnt in the tutorial.

Week 2 Lab 1 e-Learning

The combined videos of the Fringe and Grudge

This exercise was a tedious one. I had to use more than one null object. I was still having a hard time to recap what I did for this tutorial. The continuation of the tracker was a little confusing because I was unsure where to stop the first tracker and to start the second tracker. In the end, I managed to complete the short video. A combination of the original video, Fringe and the video I choose, The Grudge.

Week 1 Lab 3 Kick Ass (Jessie J)

The two videos combined together.

In this tutorial, I learnt more about tracking. I find the video easier the first tutorial I did that was the shooting. In this tutorial I had to replace the show on the tv to my own video. At first I was not able to do it but after watching the tutorials provided and explore on my own, I finally get it.

I need to first track the perspective position of the footage that I want my video to fit in that was the television. After applying the tracker, I have to parent the Jessie J video to the null object.

Before this, I did know know about all this tools and I find that the tutorials are really good.

Week 1 Lab 2

Resource: http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/blood_splatter/

In this tutorial, I learnt how to set a fixed position for the blood splat that is to create a 'null object' and set the tracker. Not only that, I also learn 2 types of masking, the tedious and the easier way. I tried doing both ways so that I understand better about the masking effect.

The first way of masking is to use the masking 'pen' tool and mark the points of the object that I want to overlap. I have to look at the points carefully and see whether the body overlaps the blood, if not, I have to adjust the points and set the key frames.

The second way of masking is by using the 'Roto Brush Tool'. This method is easier as I only need to draw out the outline of the man and the keyframes are already given.

This tutorial is really helpful for me as Im sure I will need it for project or future use. Masking is the basic thing we must know how to do.

Week 1 Lab 1

For the first lab, we were asked to a short and simple tutorials. These are the 2 tutorials that I did and export. I find the tutorials useful as I learn things things like bouncing texts(bouncing ball) and smoothing it. Rotating and positioning is a basic that we should know how to do by now.

While doing the tutorial, I took down some tools shortcut that I find useful for projects or my own use.

Shift + Page Down: Keyframe to every 10s
J: Backward Keyframe
K: Forward Keyframe
P: Position
R: Rotation
T: Opacity
S: Scale

U: View Animation Keyframe OR Animation Tab - Reveal Animating Properties

To preview/exit fullscreen: " `~ " button (above TAB button)

Bounce(text or images): Keyframe > Right Click > Keyframe Assistant > Easy Ease

Motion Blur: Press the 'ball' button at both layer and at the top.
